Teacher Resume: Examples, Skills and ATS Keywords

Last updated 2026-08-04

Teaching resumes must satisfy two very different readers: an ATS filtering for certification and subject area, and a principal reading for classroom outcomes. Certification, grade levels and subjects should appear verbatim and early, because these are frequently hard filters set by district hiring systems.

Teacher resume bullet point examples

Three bullets in the form that survives both an ATS keyword search and a six-second human scan: a strong verb, a specific action, and a measurable outcome.

  • Raised average end-of-year mathematics proficiency from 68% to 84% across 120 students in three sections.
  • Designed a differentiated reading program for 18 students with IEPs, with 15 meeting or exceeding annual growth targets.
  • Mentored 4 first-year teachers, all of whom were retained into a second year against a district average of 71%.

Do not copy these. Use them as a shape — the numbers must be yours, and you must be able to reconstruct each one out loud in an interview.

Professional summary example

Four parts: the role, the level, the specialty and one measurable proof point. Forty to seventy words.

Resume format for a Teacher

  • One column. A two-column layout can interleave on text extraction.
  • Standard headings: Professional Summary, Skills, Work Experience, Education.
  • One page under about seven years of experience, two beyond that.
  • One date format throughout — “Mon YYYY” is safest.
  • Contact details in the body, never in the page header region.
  • A text-based PDF. Test it by selecting the text in your reader.
