What this checker looks at
Six weighted categories, each scored independently so you can see exactly where the points went.
- Contact & identity — name, email, phone, location and profile links, including whether they parse.
- Sections & structure — which sections exist, whether headings are ones parsers recognize, and whether the order suits your career stage.
- ATS-safe formatting — icons, decorative glyphs, emoji, tab alignment, font size, line height, margins and date-format consistency.
- Content quality — weak verbs, passive voice, pronouns, bullet length, and the proportion of bullets carrying a number.
- Keywords & skills — the density and grouping of your skills block and whether your target role appears at all.
- Length & density — estimated page count against what your experience level warrants.
How the score is calculated
Each category starts at full marks and loses points for each rule that fires, floored at zero. A category you have no content for cannot earn points — an empty resume is not "perfectly formatted", it is unscoreable, and the score reflects that.
No single rule can cost you more than half a category, so one repeated nitpick across thirty bullets cannot wipe out an otherwise strong document.
Every rule is written to be defensible in a single sentence. If you disagree with one, tell us why — a rule nobody can justify should not be costing anybody points.
What no ATS checker can tell you
No third-party tool can replicate a specific employer's configuration — every deployment is tuned differently, and some score against the requisition in ways nobody outside the company can see.
Treat the score as a checklist of removable risks rather than a prediction. A 95 does not guarantee an interview; it means you have eliminated the mechanical reasons for not getting one.
Is my resume uploaded?
No. There is no server to upload it to. The analysis is JavaScript running on your device, your resume is stored in your browser's local storage, and closing the tab is the only deletion step required.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this ATS resume checker really free?
- Yes. Every feature is free and the source code is open. There is no paid tier, no watermark and no account.
- Is my resume uploaded anywhere?
- No. The entire analysis runs in your browser using JavaScript. Your resume is stored only in your own browser’s local storage and is never transmitted to a server.
- How accurate is the ATS score?
- The score reflects rules drawn from how real parsers segment and index a resume — heading recognition, date parsing, contact extraction and text density. No third-party tool can perfectly replicate a specific employer’s ATS, so treat the score as a checklist of removable risks rather than a guarantee.
